Dry Eye Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Remedies

Dry eye problems were usually seen after reaching the age of 50. But now this problem is increasing significantly among younger people. Experts think that this is happening due to a long time of looking at the screen, use of lenses, staying in air-conditioned rooms, and smoking.

What is Dry Eye?

If the eye produces less water than it needs, problems such as burning, stinging or itching of the eyes occur. These are the primary symptoms of dry eye. If not treated at the right time, there is a risk of various types of infections including inflammatory problems in the eyes. At the same time, this problem can occur in both eyes or in one eye.

 

Symptoms of Dry Eye

Its common symptoms are – dry eyes, inability to cry, scratchy or dry feeling in the eyes, and itching and redness of the eyes. Also blurred vision, constant watery eyes, sensitivity to light, and always feeling like something has fallen into the eye. Also, the eyelids may swell or the eyes may feel very tired. If you experience such problems, you must consult a doctor.

 

Why it happens

After the age of 50, the tear production or water production capacity of the eyes starts to decrease. Then dry eye or dry eye problem occurs. In the case of young people, the main causes of this disease are looking at the screen for a long time, smoking, or being in smoky places. Regular use of contact lenses or staying in air-conditioned rooms can also cause this problem. Apart from this, if there are various diseases including allergies, arthritis, lupus, and thyroid, it can cause dry eye problems. Antihistamines, decongestants, anti-depressant drugs as well as pressure, acne, and contraceptive drugs can cause dry eyes.

 

What to do if you got a dry eye problem

If there is a dry eye problem, the first thing to do is to use medicine and drops as per the doctor’s advice. If you follow the doctor’s advice regularly, this problem will disappear in a few days. In addition, three to four liters of water should be drunk a day. Smoking or alcohol or other soft drinks should be completely avoided. Do not look at the computer or mobile screen for a long time. If you want to work, make glasses with specially made glass for the screen. Eat more watery fruits and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Don’t stare for too long. Remove the eyelids frequently. Take care not to get AC air in the eyes. It is better not to stay in an air-conditioned room unless it is too much trouble. Foods rich in omega-3 are especially beneficial for the eyes. So eat more sea fish, cod liver oil, walnuts or mixed nuts, sour yogurt, and soy milk.
