Holding urine is a dangerous habit for women

Many women hold urine for a long period. This habit can lead to serious physical problems. The infection may appear simple at first, but may later develop into a chronic form.

A healthy person drinks two to three liters of water a day. It should pass urine at least six to seven times throughout the day. But if he urinates less than four times a day, it should be assumed that he is holding it.

Holding urine for a long time causes certain problems in women more than in men. These include—

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): Women are more prone to urinary tract infections due to various reasons. If you have the habit of holding urine for a long time, it increases the risk of urinary tract infection.

Let’s say a woman has a few bacteria in her urine, But the number or effectiveness of the bacteria is not high enough to cause an infection. In such a situation, if the urine is passed repeatedly, the bacteria can come out. But if it does not pass for a long time, the bacteria do not get a chance to come out. Then they start growing rapidly in the bladder. And it increases the risk of infection.

It is believed that almost every woman suffers from this infection at least once in their lifetime. But if you suffer from repeated UTIs it becomes a matter of serious concern. Three or more UTIs in a year are called recurrent UTIs.

Recurrent UTI infection can reach the kidneys in women with diabetes, anemia, or immunocompromised women of childbearing age. In that case, the patient has to be treated in the hospital.

Again, women may suffer from infertility due to recurrent UTI. This is because recurrent UTI infections can sometimes reach the uterus or fallopian tubes.

Once you have such a problem, it is difficult to fully recover. Conceiving a child is not possible in many cases.

Bladder muscle dysfunction: There is a risk of muscle problems if you retain urine from the habit of holding urine for a long time. In this case, there are basically two types of problems. First, urine flow cannot be initiated. That is, despite the velocity of urine, urine does not pass or takes a long time. Secondly, there is urinary incontinence. That is, when the urine gets the velocity, it comes out automatically. Such problems should be treated with the advice of a urologist.

Stones: Holding urine for a long time increases the risk of urinary stones.

Remedy to prevent UTI

In this case, awareness is the big remedy. One should not hold back urine for a long time thinking about one’s own well-being. Don’t stay too long in a place that doesn’t have good toilet facilities.
