Are tattoos halal or haram in Islam?

The trend of drawing tattoos on the body all over the world has come mainly from western cultures. Tattoos are usually made by piercing the skin with a needle or similar object, but in most cases, they are permanent and cannot be easily removed.

Nowhere in the Islamic Sharia is it permissible to draw such tattoos on the body. Because it is a distortion of the natural creation beauty of the great Allah. Jumhur, that is, most jurists and jurists, have called it haraam and abominable.

In the Holy Qur’an it is said, ‘Satan said,‘ I will certainly adopt certain people from among Your servants, will command them to change the form created by Allah. Whoever takes the devil for a friend instead of Allah, is at the loss. ‘(Surat an-Nisa: 118-119)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also warned about this in the hadeeth. 5704).

In another hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed the women who use fake hair, who bring fake hair to other women, and the women who draw tattoos and for whom they draw. (Saheeh Muslim, Hadith: 5793)

Since this tendency was more prevalent among women during the time of the Prophet, their words have been clearly mentioned in the hadith. But the prohibition applies equally to men and women.

On the other hand, Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave a stern warning against imitating foreigners; He said, “Whoever adopts similarity, he belongs to them.” (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith: 4031)
