Travel Singapore : বেড়িয়ে আসুন প্রশান্ত ও ধীরস্থির সিঙ্গাপুর থেকে। সিঙ্গাপুরের শশব্যস্ত শহুরে জীবন দেখে ক্লান্ত? ব্যস্ততা থেকে ক্ষণিকের জন্য পালাতে সোজা চলে যান দক্ষিণের দ্বীপগুলোর দিকে।

 

সিঙ্গাপুরের নাম শুনলেই মাথায় আসে শহুরে জীবন আর ব্যস্ত সব শপিংমলের ছবি। এর মধ্যে আবার পেশাদার ব্যবসায়ীদের পদচারণায় সিঙ্গাপুর হয়ে উঠেছে একটি বৈশ্বিক ফাইন্যান্সিয়াল কেন্দ্র। তাই মূল দ্বীপটা থেকে একটা দিন একটু বেরিয়ে এলে মন্দ হয় না। এ দ্বীপগুলোর প্রশান্ত আবহাওয়া, আদিম সাদা বালির সৈকত ও ফিরোজা রঙের পানি সিঙ্গাপুরের শশব্যস্ততা থেকে মুক্তি দিয়ে আপনাকে পাইয়ে দেবে প্রত্যাশিত মুগ্ধতা।

 

কুসু আইল্যান্ড

কাউকে কুসু আইল্যান্ড নিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করেই দেখুন না, তিনি এর সঙ্গে জুড়ে একগাদা কল্পকাহিনি বলতে শুরু করবেন। এই গল্পের অনেকগুলো সংস্করণ থাকতে পারে। তবে সব গল্পই একটি কচ্ছপ, একজন চীনা ও একজন মালয় পুরুষকে ঘিরে। জাহাজ ডুবে যাওয়ার পর মানুষ দুটোকে বাঁচাতে একটি কচ্ছপটি নাকি নিজেকে আস্ত একটা দ্বীপ বানিয়ে ফেলেছিল। এখন দ্বীপটিতে অনেকেই আসে এর পবিত্র স্থানগুলোতে প্রার্থনা করতে। চীনের সমৃদ্ধির দেবতাকে উৎসর্গ করে ১৯২৩ সালে নির্মিত হয়েছে দা বো গং মন্দিরটি। লোকে বিশ্বাস করে এখানে এসে এক টুকরো হলুদ কাপড় বাঁধলেই পূরণ হবে ইচ্ছে। এখানে কচ্ছপের জন্য একটি অভয়াশ্রম রয়েছে। সেখানে আপনি শত শত কচ্ছপ দেখলেও অবাক হওয়ার কিছু নেই। এ ছাড়া কুসু দ্বীপের লেগুন ও সৈকতে সাঁতার কাটাটাও বেশ মজার।

 

যেভাবে যাবেন : সিঙ্গাপুরের মূল দ্বীপ থেকে ৫.৬ কিলোমিটার দূরে এটি। দিনের বেলায় এখানে লোকের যাতায়াত লেগেই থাকে।

 

 

সিস্টারস আইল্যান্ডস

দ্রুতগতির বোটে শহরের কেন্দ্র থেকে মাত্র ১৫ মিনিটের পথ। পিকনিক ও সøরকেলিংয়ের জন্য সেরা জায়গা। দ্বীপগুলো সরু কিন্তু গভীর চ্যানেল দিয়ে আলাদা করা। ছায়াঘেরা পাম, অন্যান্য গাছপালা ও সৈকতের ছাউনি দিয়ে সিস্টার আইল্যান্ড দুটো বেড়ে উঠেছে। এর একটি হলো বড় বোন দ্বীপ (সুবার লাউত), আরেকটি হলো ছোট বোন দ্বীপ (সুবার দারাত)। পিকনিকের জন্য দুটোই এখানে জনপ্রিয়। এখানকার উষ্ণ নীল পানিতে বিশ্বের দুর্লভ কিছু প্রবাল প্রাচীরের দেখা মিলবে। এখানকার পানিতে আছে তাক লাগানো সব মাছ, কাঁকড়া ও একগাদা সামুদ্রিক প্রাণী। কিছু লম্বা লেজওয়ালা ম্যাকাকু বানরের আবাসও এই দ্বীপে। তারা বেশ বুনো এবং তাদের না ঘাঁটানোই উত্তম।

 

যেভাবে যাবেন : কোনো ফেরি সার্ভিস নেই। মেরিনা সাউথ পায়ার থেকে বোট ভাড়া নিয়ে যেতে হবে। ভাড়াটা আগেই দর কষাকষি করে নিতে হবে।

 

 

সেইন্ট জনস আইল্যান্ড

আগে এর নাম ছিল পুলাউ সাকিজাং বেনদেরা। সিঙ্গাপুরের দক্ষিণাঞ্চলীয় দ্বীপগুলোর একটি সেইন্ট জনস আইল্যান্ড। অনেক আগে কুষ্ঠরোগীদের নির্বাসনে পাঠানো হতো এখানে। এমনকি পাঠানো হতো রাজনৈতিক বন্দি কিংবা গোপন কোনো সংগঠনের নেতাদেরও। ১৯৭৫ সাল থেকে বদলে যেতে থাকে সেইন্ট জনস আইল্যান্ড। সেখানে এখন দেখা মেলে সাঁতার কাটার প্রশান্ত লেগুন, সৈকত, পিকনিকের স্থান, ট্রেকিং রুট ও ফুটবল খেলার মাঠ। কাঠের তৈরি বাংলো ও কিছু বাংক আছে এখানে। যেগুলোতে ৬০ জনের মতো লোক থাকতে পারবে। পরিবারের সঙ্গে ঘোরাঘুরি হোক কিংবা ক্যাম্পিং ট্রিপ, এই দ্বীপে আরামে থাকার মতো একটা জায়গা আপনি পাবেনই। যারা মাছ ধরতে পছন্দ করেন তাদের জন্যেও দ্বীপটি দারুণ।

 

যেভাবে যাবেন : কুসুর মতোই এখানে ফেরি সার্ভিস আছে। এর জন্য আগে মেরিনা সাউথ পায়ার-এ চলে যান।

 

পুলাউ হানতু

মালয় ভাষায় সরাসরি অনুবাদ করলে দাঁড়াবে, ‘ভ‚তের দ্বীপ’। সামুদ্রিক প্রাণচাঞ্চল্যে ভরপুর এ দ্বীপে আছে ১০০ প্রজাতির প্রবাল। আছে ব্যাম্বো শার্ক, ক্লাউন ফিশ, তারামাছ, সিন্ধুঘোটক ও কাছিম। কথিত আছে প্রাচীন মালয় যোদ্ধারা এই দ্বীপে তাদের জীবন বাজি রেখে লড়েছিলেন এবং এখনো তাদের ভ‚তেরা এখানে ঘুরছে ফিরছে। যদিও এখন এখানে ভুতুড়ে কিছুই পাওয়া যাবে না। দুটো আলাদা ছোট দ্বীপের সমন্বয়ে এটি তৈরি। একটি হানতু বেসার, আরেকটি হানতু কেসিল। সেনটোসা ডেভেলপমেন্ট করপোরেশন-এর তত্ত¡াবধানে পরিচালিত হচ্ছে দ্বীপটি। পানি বলতে যারা অজ্ঞান তাদের কাছেই দিন দিন জনপ্রিয় হচ্ছে দ্বীপটি। কারণ এখানকার পর্যটকদের কাছে সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় কাজটা হলো ডাইভিং। সারারাত ক্যাম্পিংয়ের সুযোগও আছে।

 

যেভাবে যাবেন : এই দ্বীপে যাওয়ার কোনো নিয়মিত ফেরি নেই। তাই ওয়েস্ট কোস্ট পায়ার থেকে বোট ভাড়া করাই ভালো।

 

 

লাজারাস আইল্যান্ড

এ যেন দেশটির সবচেয়ে গোপন কোনো জায়গা। নির্মেঘ আবহাওয়া ও জনবসতিহীন হওয়াতেই এর বেশি নামডাক। বিড়াল দেখে যদি উদ্বেলিত হয়ে ওঠেন, তবে লাজারাস দ্বীপে যাওয়ার পথে যা দেখবেন তা পছন্দ না করে পারবেন না। সেইন্ট জন আইল্যান্ড ও লাজারাস আইল্যান্ডের সংযোগকারী সেতুর ঠিক আগেই তাদের দেখা মিলবে। আপনি সঙ্গে করে নিজের জন্য ও বিড়ালগুলোর জন্যেও খাবার নিয়ে যেতে পারবেন। এখানকার সৈকতগুলো বিচ্ছিন্ন। তাই একাকী হেঁটে বেড়ানো বা পারিবারিক পিকনিকের জন্য এগুলো চমৎকার। কারো জš§দিন বা ব্যাচেলর পার্টি করতে চাইলে একটা ইয়টও ভাড়া করতে পারেন। এসব ইয়টে আনন্দ বিনোদনের জন্য আছে অনবোর্ড বারবিকিউ ও ক্যারাওকে সিস্টেম।

 

যেভাবে যাবেন : লাজারাস দ্বীপে যাওয়ার সরাসরি কোনো ফেরি নেই। তাই ফেরিতে চড়ে আগে সেইন্ট জন আইল্যান্ডে যেতে হবে। তারপর সংযোগকারী সেতু ধরে হেঁটে লাজারাস দ্বীপে যেতে হবে।

Often known for its urban life and bustling malls, Singapore is a global financial centre frequented by business professionals. So a day trip away from the main island is a nice escape. With its tranquil atmosphere, pristine white sands and turquoise waters, these islands can give you the needed charm from the hustle and bustle of Singapore.

 

Kusu Island

Ask anyone about Kusu Island, and they will start telling you about various myths attached to it. While there are many versions, all revolve around the story of a tortoise, a Chinese and a Malay man. This tortoise transformed into an island to save the men, who were shipwrecked. Today many people visit the island’s sacred sites to worship. Built in 1923, the Da Bo Gong Temple, is dedicated to the Chinese God of Prosperity. People believe that tying a yellow cloth to the tress fulfil their wishes. There is also a tortoise sanctuary and shelter on the island and you won’t be surprised to see hundreds of them there. The lagoons and beaches at the Kusu Island are also worth a swim in.

Getting there: It is located about 5.6 km off the main island of Singapore, and is popular with day-trippers.

 

 

 

Travel Singapore : Sisters Islands

Only 15 minutes from the city centre by a fast boat, the Sister Islands are a great place to picnic and snorkel. Separated by a narrow but deep channel, shady palms and tree and beach shelters make the two Sister Islands – Big Sister island (Subar Laut) and Little Sister island (Subar Darat) – popular with picnickers. The warm, blue waters are home to some of the richest reefs found. The waters are home to amazing variety of fishes, crabs and other marine life. The islands are also home to some Long-tailed macaques. They are wild and it is advisable to leave them undisturbed.

 

Getting there: No ferry services are available. Get there by chartering a boat from the Marina South Pier; prices are negotiable.

 

Travel Singapore : St. John’s Island

Previously known as Pulau Sakijang Bendera, Saint John’s Island is one of the Southern Islands in Singapore. Once a quarantine colony for leprosy cases and a penal settlement for political prisoners and ringleaders of secret societies, St. John’s island was transformed in 1975 into a tranquil getaway with swimming lagoons, beaches, picnic grounds, trekking routes and soccer fields. There are several bungalow chalets and also bunks that can accommodate up to 60 people. Be it a family outing or a camping trip, you are bound to have a comfortable place to stay on this island. It is also a lovely place for fishing enthusiasts.

 

Getting there: The ferry service is the same as for Kusu, head to Marina South Pier and go from there.

Travel Singapore : Pulau Hantu

Literally translating to “ghost island” in Malay, Pulau Hantu is a place rich in sea life with more than 100 species of corals, as well as bamboo sharks, clown fishes, sea stars, seahorses and turtles. Legend has it that ancient Malay warriors once fought to their deaths on the islands and their ghosts now linger there. However, there is nothing ghostly about it. Made up of two islets – Hantu Besar and Hantu Kecil – the island is managed by Sentosa Development Corporation. The island today is increasingly becoming popular with water enthusiasts. While diving is the top choice for visitors, you can also opt for overnight camping.

Getting there: There are no regular ferries to the island, so it’s best to hire a boat from West Coast Pier.

 

Travel Singapore : Lazarus Island 

One of the country’s best kept secrets, Lazarus Island is known to be serene and uninhabited. If you’re someone who gets thrilled at the sight of cats, you’re going to love what you’re going to see on the way to Lazarus Island: before the bridge linking St John’s Island to Lazarus Island. You can bring your food and feed the feline creatures. The beaches here are secluded and can provide a great opportunity for your to take a stroll or indulge in a family picnic. You can also rent a private yacht for a birthday or a bachelorette party. These yachts provide onboard barbecue and karaoke system for fun and enjoyment.

Getting there: There are no direct ferries to Lazarus Island, so visitors have to take the ferry to St John’s Island and walk to Lazarus Island via a link bridge.
