The lost city of Incas which is mainly known as Machu Picchu is the emblem of the Incan Empire that was built around 1450AD. Travel to Machu Picchu does not mean travel to see old peaks or mountains. This amazing architecture of the Inca Empire was hidden for about 3 centuries. But at present, this dazzling architecture is one of the most visited places in Peru.

Many different theories exist about the purpose of Machu Picchu. Many theories say that it was a royal property or sacred shrine for the Inca kings, again many people think it was a secret formal center among the Incas. After the Spanish conquest in 1532, the Inca aristocracy used to live here. Although later it was abandoned. Over time, the Inca civilization has been lost, as well as Machu Picchu, a mysterious archeological site. The secret of its existence was known only to the farmers living in this area. The mystery first came to light one summer in 1911 when Bingham set out on a search with a small team of explorers to search the famous “lost” cities of the Incas. And he found Machu Picchu. Excited Bingham spread the word about his discovery in one of the best-selling books, and after that, this remarkably beautiful installation gradually began to gain ground.

Incas were one of the best architectures in the world. Machu Picchu was built based on a method called Ashler at the command of the ruler Pachacuti, who founded the Inca Empire. Machu Picchu is made of polished dry-stone walls. Its primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the three-window house. Many of the buildings were destroyed after the Spanish invasion, so most of the buildings have been rebuilt to present to visitors. By 1976, about 30% of Machu Picchu had been recovered, and recovery is still ongoing.

How to go: The easiest way to travel to Machu Picchu is by train from Cusco along the floor of the Urubamba Valley, then by bus to the entrance to the ruins. Alternatively, Machu Picchu can be reached on foot from the Aguas Calientes station. This will take about two hours.
