Lettuce MicrogreenGrowing lettuce microgreen is fun. It is also easy as it is not sound! Microgreens also are a very good source of enormous nutrition. Some says, that microgreen contains almost 25 times more nutrition than regular vegetables on an average. And, for microgreen growers, lettuce is definitely a lovable choice as it is easier and faster to grow than others.

Let’s see how to grow lettuce microgreen on a tray

  1. Prepare the tray : It can any size, 10 inch by 10 inch is a good choice to start. You can use the plastic tray as it will not degrade by watering or frost. The tray should be at least 1 inch in depth. Pour 1/4th of the tray with clean water. Then put potting mix in it. You can use only vermi compost or only coco dust, as microgreens do not require much fertilizer.
  2. Sprinkle lettuce seeds on the tray. Try not to overload in a single spot. Try to sprinkle the seeds evenly and not too densely. If there are multiple seeds in a single spot, this may create a mold and destroy your whole tray. Take time and be patient at sprinkling the seeds.
  3. Press the seeds gently by a flat thing or just by your palm. Make sure that the seeds are in contact with the potting mix.
  4. Sprinkle some more potting mix over the tray just to make sure the seeds are covered with enough soil.
  5. Now, it’s time to water. Do not just pour a lot water on the tray. You already poured water on the tray which will provide the moisture over time. Now, you just have to spray over the soil to make the upper layer wet (but not soggy). Lettuce seeds are very delicate and need enough heat as well. So, don’t spray ice-cold water.
  6. It will take 5-10 days for germination of the lettuce seeds. The period depends on the temperature. Normally you have to maintain 15-24 degree Celsius for a proper germination.
  7. Spray occasionally just to make sure the soil is moist. After germination and when you can see the little seedling rising, put the tray in a spot, where it can get indirect sunlight. Microgreens do not require high amount of sunlight usually, as you just need to grow first two true leaves.
