While you are in Bangkok for a holiday, try these places for some unique adventure away from the madness of the city

Whenever we talk about Bangkok, the first thing that comes to our mind are Buddhist architecture, sky highways, hustle and bustle on the roads, great shopping experience and of course delicious street food. However, there is another side of Bangkok that travellers often overlook. One of the many benefits, while you are visiting Bangkok, is the vast array of small getaways and road trips. With Khao Yai, Lopburi and Nakhon Pathom just a few hours away from the madness of Bangkok, travellers to Bangkok don’t need to go far to find something spectacular. While driving to these places is the best option, they are easily accessible by bus or train.

 

Khao Yai

A Unesco World Heritage Site, Khao Yai is Thailand’s third-largest and one of the most visited national parks. Spreading across four provinces – Saraburi (west), Nakhon Nayok (east), Nakhon Ratchasima (north) and Prachinburi – the highest peak, at Khao Rom is 1,351 metres above sea level. The park’s scenery includes both tropical seasonal forests, pounding waterfalls, mountainous areas and fertile grasslands. It’s also home to a variety of species of plants and animals, including wild elephants. There are few trekking options too like the Kong Kaeow Nature Trail, which begins behind the Visitor’s Centre. It introduces the hiker to the flora of Khao Yai, swinging bridge, riverbank and the Kong Kaeow Waterfall.

There’s much more to Khao Yai than just wilderness hiking. Over the past few decades, the area surrounding the national park has undergone extensive development, with the opening of many resorts, villas, vacation houses and camping spots. For example, the Casa De Montana can be a good option for an adventure stay. The unique cosy caravans come with a lot of amenities like aircon, TV, fridge, heater and even an oven.

 

Lopburi

Situated 150 km north of Bangkok, Lopburi holds a unique place in Thai history. It is one of Thailand’s oldest cities and has been a major centre of power since the 6th century. So, remnants from Thai history can still be found in this city. A unique thing about the ruins is that they reflect a European influence in the architecture and details.

Also known as ‘Monkey City’, Lopburi is famous for the hundreds of crab-eating macaques that overrun the Old Town. The last weekend of November sees the annual Lopburi Monkey Festival, where monkeys around the Khmer-style temple Phra Prang Sam Yot and the Phra Kaan Shrine are offered a buffet of fruit to thank them for bringing prosperity to the town. Another must-see is the annual Lopburi Sunflower Blooming Festival. From November through January thousands of sunflowers come into full bloom at Khao Jean Lae.

It is also worth visiting Wat Khao Wongkhot, also known as the ‘Bat Cave’ as it houses millions of bats. Located roughly four km from Ban Mi District, the temple is situated in the middle of three mountains with a reclining Buddha enshrined at the foot of Sanam Daeng Mountain. The best thing about Lopburi is that it’s compact and easily explored on foot.

 

Nakhon Pathom

Nakhon Pathom lies in close proximity to the Thai capital, but it’s a world apart. Lush green trees, stunning views and picture-perfect landscapes, particularly alongside the Tha Chin River, make Nakhom Pathom a perfect place to unwind and relax.

Wat Phra Pathom Chedi is one of the most famous temples in the region. Located in the city of Nakhom Pathom, it houses the tallest stupa in the world (measuring 120.5 metres). The Phra Pathom Chedi Festival is held in the month of November for nine consecutive days. It is a good place to find local products on display and entertainment for all ages.

Nakhon Pathom is also famous for its night market. Open daily from 6 pm till midnight, it houses an array of food vendors selling Thai favourites, including the sticky rice and coconut milk cooked in bamboo. The Don Wai Floating Market also makes a good stop for foodies. Although it is referred to a ‘floating market’, most of the vendors and restaurants are set up on land with boat trips on offer to visitors. It’s open daily from 7 am to 6 pm.

 

 

ব্যাংকক ছাড়িয়ে

অবকাশ যাপনের জন্য আপনি যখন ব্যাংকক থাকবেন, শহরের যাবতীয় খেপাটে ব্যস্ততা থেকে দূরে গিয়ে অনন্য সব রোমাঞ্চের জন্য এসব জায়গা ঘুরে দেখতে পারেন।

 

আমরা যখনই ব্যাংকক নিয়ে কথা বলতে যাই, প্রথমেই আমাদের মাথায় আসে বৌদ্ধ স্থাপত্য, উড়াল সড়ক, রাস্তায় অবিরাম তাড়াহুড়ো, চমৎকার কেনাকাটার অভিজ্ঞতা এবং অবশ্যই মজাদার স্ট্রিট ফুড। যাই হোক, ব্যাংককের আরেকটি রূপ আছে যেটি পর্যটকরা প্রায়ই এড়িয়ে যায়। ব্যাংককে ভ্রমণের অন্যতম সেরা আকর্ষণগুলোর মধ্যে আছে ছোটখাট কিছু দর্শনীয় স্থান ও প্রচুর রোড ট্রিপের সুবিধা।

শহরের ভিড় ছাড়িয়ে কিছু দূরেই মাত্র কয়েক ঘণ্টার পথে পড়বে খাও ইয়েই, লোপবুড়ি এবং নাখন পাথম। তাই চমকপ্রদ কিছু স্থান খুঁজে পেতে পর্যটকদের মূল শহর থেকে খুব বেশি দূরে যেতে হয় না। যদিও এসব স্থানে যাওয়ার জন্য গাড়ি চালিয়ে যাওয়াই সবচেয়ে ভালো তবে এসব স্থানে ট্রেন বা বাসে চড়েও সহজে যাওয়া যায়।

 

খাও ইয়াই

ইউনেস্কো স্বীকৃত বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্য এটি। খাও ইয়াই থাইল্যান্ডের তৃতীয় বৃহত্তম এবং সবচেয়ে বেশিবার দেখা ন্যাশনাল পার্কগুলোর একটি। চারটি প্রদেশ- পশ্চিমের সারাবুরি, পূর্বের নাখন নায়ক, উত্তরের নাখন রাথচাশিমা এবং সর্বোচ্চ শৃঙ্ঘ প্রাচীনবুড়ি জুড়ে ছড়িয়ে থাকা এই পার্ক, যার সর্বোচ্চ চূড়াটি আছে খাও রমে- সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠ থেকে এক হাজার ৩৫১ মিটার উপরে। পার্কটির প্রাকৃতিক দৃশ্যের মধ্যে আছে উপকূলীয় বনাঞ্চল, ঝরনা জলপ্রপাত, পাহাড়ি অঞ্চল ও উর্বর ঘাসে ছাওয়া মাঠ। বুনো হাতিসহ এখানে আরও আছে বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির উদ্ভিদ ও প্রাণির সমাহার। কিছু ট্রেকিংয়ের সুযোগও আছে এখানে যেমন কং খায়ু ন্যাচার ট্রেইল যা ভিজিটর সেন্টারের ঠিক পেছন থেকেই শুরু। পথটি হাইকারদেরকে খাও ইয়াইয়ের পুষ্পরাশি, ঝুলন্ত সেতু, নদীতীর এবং কং খায়ু ঝর্ণার সঙ্গে পরিচয় করিয়ে দেবে।

বনে জঙ্গলে হাইকিং ছাড়াও খাও ইয়াইয়ে আছে আরো অনেক কিছু। অনেক নতুন রিসোর্ট, ভিলা, অবকাশযাপন কেন্দ্র ও ক্যাম্পিংয়ের স্থান প্রতিষ্ঠাসহ বিগত কয়েক দশক ধরে পার্কের আশপাশের এলাকায় ব্যাপক উন্নয়ন কাজ চলেছে। উদাহরণস্বরূপ, একটি রোমাঞ্চকর ভ্রমণের জন্য কাসা ডি মন্টানা বেশ ভালো স্থান হতে পারে। আছে অনন্য সব আরামদায়ক ক্যারাভান যাতে অনেক সুবিধা পাওয়া যাবে যেমন শীতাতপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত কক্ষ, টেলিভিশন, ফ্রিজ, হিটার এবং এমনকি একটি ওভেনও।

 

লোপবুড়ি

ব্যাংককের ১৫০ কিলোমিটার উত্তরে অবস্থিত, লোপবুড়ি থাই ইতিহাসে একটি অনন্য জায়গা দখল করে আছে। একটি থাইল্যান্ডের অন্যতম প্রাচীন শহরগুলোর একটি যা ষষ্ঠ শতাব্দি থেকে দেশটির ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্র হয়ে আছে। তাই, থাই ইতিহাসের কিছু অবশিষ্ট এখনও এখানে পাওয়া যাবে। শহরটির এই ধ্বংসাবশেষের একটি অনন্য বিষয় হচ্ছে এখানকার স্থাপত্য ও খুঁটিনাটি নির্মাণশৈলীর মধ্যে ইউরোপীয় প্রভাব খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়।

মাংকি সিটি ওরফে বানরদের শহর বলে পরিচিত এই শহরটি কাঁকড়াখোর শত শত ম্যাকাকুর (ছোট লেজওয়ালা বানর) জন্যেও বিখ্যাত। ওল্ড টাউনটা বলা যায় এদেরই দখলে। নভেম্বরের শেষ সপ্তাহে বার্ষিক লোপাবুড়ি বানর উৎসব অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। যেখানে শহরে সমৃদ্ধি আনার জন্য ধন্যবাদস্বরূপ খেমার ধাঁচের শৈলীতে নির্মিত মন্দির ফ্রা প্রাং সাম ইয়োট এবং ফ্রা কান শ্রাইনের আশপাশের বানরদের নানানপদের ফলমূল উপঢৌকন হিসেবে দেওয়া হয়। আরেকটি দেখার মতো অনুষ্ঠান হচ্ছে বার্ষিক লোপবুড়ি সানফ্লাওয়ার বøুমিং উৎসব। নভেম্বর থেকে জানুয়ারির এই সময়ে খাও জিয়ান লাইয়ে হাজার হাজার সূর্যমূখী ফুল পুরোপুরি প্রস্ফ‚টিত হয়।

আরেকটি দেখার মতো স্থান হচ্ছে ওয়াট খাও ওয়াংখট, লাখ লাখ বাদুড় থাকার কারণে যা বাদুড়ের গুহা নামেও পরিচিত। বান মি জেলা থেকে আনুমানিক চার কিলোমিটার দূরত্বে অবস্থিত, সানাম ডাইং পর্বতের পাদদেশে শায়িত বুদ্ধের মুর্তির মন্দিরটি তিনটি পর্বতের মধ্যবর্তী অঞ্চলে অবস্থিত। লোপবুড়ির সবচেয়ে ভালো দিক হচ্ছে এটি বেশ আঁটসাঁট শহর এবং পায়ে হেঁটেই পুরো শহর ঘোরা যায়।

 

নাখন পাথম

নাখন পাথম থাইল্যান্ডের রাজধানীর খুব কাছাকাছি দূরত্বে অবস্থিত, অবে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা একটি জগত। ঘন সবুজ গাছ, চমকপ্রদ দৃশ্য এবং ছবির মত ভূদৃশ্য বিশেষ করে থা চিন নদীর পাশের দৃশ্য নাখন পাথমকে বিনোদন ও অবকাশযাপনের জন্য যথাযথ শহর হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে। ওয়াট ফ্রা পাথম চেদি এখানকার অন্যতম বিখ্যাত মন্দির। নাখন পাথম শহরে অবস্থিত এই মন্দিরে আছে বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে উঁচু প্যাগোডা (যা ১২০.৫ মিটার উঁচু)। ফ্রা ফেথম চেদি উৎসব নভেম্বর মাসে টানা নয় দিন ধরে উদযাপিত হয়ে থাকে। স্থানীয় পণ্য এবং সব বয়সী মানুষের জন্য বিনোদনের খোঁজ পাওয়ার জন্য এটি একটি ভালো স্থান।

নাখন পাথম আরও বিখ্যাত এখানকার রাতের বাজারের জন্য। প্রতিদিন সন্ধ্যা ছয়টার পর শুরু হয়ে মধ্যরাত পর্যন্ত চলা এই বাজারে দেখা পাওয়া যায় খাবারে ফেরিওয়ালাদের বিশাল সারি, যারা প্রচলিত থাই খাবার বিক্রি করে; যার মধ্যে আছে বাঁশের মধ্যে রান্না করা স্টিকি রাইস এবং নারকেলের দুধ। ভোজনরসিক মানুষদের জন্য ডন ওয়াইয়ের ভাসমান মার্কেটও বেশ ভালো গন্তব্য। যদিও এটি ভাসমান মার্কেট হিসেবে পরিচিত তবে বেশিরভাগ খাবার বিক্রেতা এবং রেস্টুরেন্টগুলো ডাঙ্গাতেই অবস্থিত, যারা পর্যটকদের জন্য নৌকাভ্রমণের সুবিধাও রেখেছে। এটি প্রতিদিন সকাল সাতটা থেকে সন্ধ্যা ছয়টা পর্যন্ত খোলা থাকে।
