The University of Texas at Austin is giving scholars a chance to study Taylor Swift lyrics alongside workshops by similar erudite icons such as Shakespeare, John Keats, and yes, Robert Frost.
The academy is offering an undergraduate course–” The Taylor Swift Songbook”– this fall as part of its liberal trades honors program. It comes on the heels of a Swift-themed class at New York University last spring that ended with the songster as the inception speaker.
English Professor Elizabeth Scala told CNN that she picked Swift because the pop star writes her own music and her lyrics can help illuminate analogous ways from classic poetry.
” This is a course on her songs as erudite jotting and the ways a popular and award-winning pen uses the same erudite biasnumbers, and homilies of traditional poetry in her work,” she said.” It isn’t about celebrity or fame.”

scholars will study Swift’s songs alongside the jottings of Western literature greats.
” They’ll be asked to dissect and contextualize common practices and problems across the centuries,” Scala said.
Scala is a tone-described Swift addict and said her thing is to educate erudite traditions through a contemporary lens.
” I want to take what Swift suckers can formerly do at a sophisticated positiontease it out for them a bit with a different vocabulary, and also show them how, in fact, Swift draws on richer erudite traditions in her tunesmith, both topically but also formally in terms of how she uses referencesconceits, and clever manipulations of words,” Scala said.
” I will be showing scholars that these operations and illuminative moves one makes when reading her songs are applicable to all forms of jotting.”
This being 2022, Scala also has set up an Instagram for the class on which she posts Swift trivia and acts questions to suckers.

The class will substantially concentrate on songs from Swift’s recent compendiums , but scholars are free to bring up aged songs for discussion, Scala said. With utmost of the lyrics posted online and the songs available on Apple Music or Spotify, scholars do not have to buy music for the class, she said.
The course also will address motifs similar as gender, authenticitysuckers‘ influence on artists and pens, and how language history and verbal traditions enrich the reading experience, Scala said.
” I suppose it’s important to connect the class to the present, but I am not willing to cede the history. This is my way of sneaking the aged material back in with applicability,” she added.
In 2015, UT Austin introduced a class named,” Beyoncé Feminism, Rihanna Womanism” to explore Black feminism. Other universities also have made captions for courses centered on pop starsincluding the University of Copenhagen’s” Beyoncé, Gender and Race” and a University of South Carolina sociology course devoted to the work of Lady Gaga.
Coming spring, Texas State University will offer a class on British pop songster Harry Styles.

Taylor Swift Hit With Hefty Brand Action Involving’ nut‘ Journals

Taylor Swift may be gearing up to battle yet another brand violation action in court; Teresa La Dart, a minstrel and author, has filed a new suit against the songsterclaiming that the Targetexclusive journals that accompanied her seventh plant readernutripped off La Dart’s 2010 poetry book of the same name.

According to documents attained by Parade, La Dart claimed that Swift’s journals “ included a number of creative rudiments that copied the suggestive designs and arrangements ” of her own collection of poetryprincipally, she thinks Swift copied the air of her book, from the color scheme to the photography arrangements to the reflection on the history.

Swift produced four different editions of the journal, each containing different reviews of entries from her nonage journals, handwritten song lyrics, and photos arranged kindly like a notebook at the morning and end of the first section. The alternate half of each book contains blank journal runners and the cover of the journals matches the cover on the related reader.

La Dart has contended that Swift’s nut book, which claims all creative credits for Swift, includes “ mainly ” analogous formatsincluding the “ recollection of once times monumentalized in a combination of written and pictorial factors, ” preface runners and titlescolor schemes, photography acts and backgrounds, and the arrangement of “ interspersed photos and jottings throughout. ”

La Dart has requested a trial by jury and is seeking to recoup all of the gains Swift made allegedly using her work, which she believes to be in excess of one million bones.

Swift has yet to respond to the allegations, but La Dart’s counsel told Pitchfork, “ Glad to give some sapience as numerous observers feel to suppose this was inadequately acceptedoriginally, it’s important to note Miss La Dart feels explosive that her full work needs to be compared with that of Miss Swift’s before a conclusion is made then. Secondly, this decision wasn’t made nor taken smoothly considering the other side is relatively redoubtableIncipiently, this was a recent consideration and this form was made presumably to reserve Miss La Dart’s rightsprimarily at this point) since history was the date the enactment of limitations closed.”

Talk about cutting it down to the line. Can Swift catch a moment of peace? She needs time to concentrate on her music, after all.
