Jaundice is not a disease itself, but a symptom of another disease. Jaundice can be an early symptom of anything from a viral infection to cirrhosis or cancer. So there is no opportunity to neglect if jaundice occurs.

 

What is Jaundice

Bilirubin, a blood component, originates from red blood cells. When red blood cells are destroyed normally or abnormally, bilirubin is produced in the liver and flows into the blood, and is excreted in the stool and urine. When the level of this bilirubin is higher than normal, it tends to accumulate in the cells. Then the normal color of the cells changes to yellowish. Then we understand jaundice. Jaundice can be caused by various reasons. First, it is caused by a blood disorder called thalassemia. Apart from this, liver problems can also cause jaundice. Such as viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and cancer. Third, jaundice occurs if bilirubin cannot be removed from the liver for some reason. such as gallstones or tumors.

 

Symptoms of Jaundice

Yellowing of the eyes and urine, loss of appetite, yellowing of the oral cavity, and in some cases yellowing of the skin. These are the symptoms of jaundice. Jaundice means liver disease. Fever, pain in the right side of the stomach, loss of appetite, nausea, and yellowing of the eyes and tongue are usually considered liver inflammation or hepatitis. If the level of jaundice increases, there is abdominal pain, fever with chills, and body itching. Then you should go to the doctor quickly.

 

Treatment of Jaundice

In most cases, jaundice resolves within a few weeks. For this, the doctor gives some medicines according to the symptoms along with the full rest of the patient, balanced nutritious food. But the food should be easily digestible, healthy, and pure. If there is no improvement within a few weeks or abnormalities occur, a specialist should be consulted. These abnormalities may include loss of consciousness (encephalopathy), vomiting of blood or black stools, excessive weakness, abnormal behavior, etc.

 

What to eat in Jaundice

If you have jaundice, you should eat food that does not put pressure on the liver or gall bladder. Eat the right food little by little. You can eat brown rice, bread, and oats to meet sugar needs. Whole grains are rich in fiber, and vitamins, which flush out harmful toxins. There should be fish, chicken, and pulses every day. Many people think that a patient suffering from jaundice cannot eat fish and meat. it’s wrong You can eat seasonal vegetables and fruits. The especially lemon syrup is very beneficial for jaundice patients. Adequate water daily, sugarcane juice, and canned water also fulfill the water requirement of the body.

 

What not to eat

Jaundice patients should not eat full cream milk or curd, or cheese. It is high in saturated fat, which is harmful to the liver. Apart from this, sugar or excessively sweet foods, raw salt, oil-spiced foods, and red meat cannot be eaten.

 

Prevention

Some simple hygiene practices, such as cleanliness, healthy food, drinking clean drinking water, not taking the blood of an infected person, or not using blades, syringes, etc. that have been used by others are one of the ways to prevent it.
